My Dirty Thirty! (Lang Co, Vietnam)

Image
You guys, I have the best friends in the world. And, beyond that, my husband is the bomb-dizzle. He's the cat's pajamas. He's the bee's knees. He's my numero uno. Seriously, you should be jealous that my husband is so fantastic. And that my friends are so amazing. Here's why. I turned into a grown-up a few months ago. That's right, I turned 30. And, because my life is amazing right now, I turned 30 IN VIETNAM! I have to admit that I was a little down about turning 30 away from home and my friends. We make a big deal out of birthdays in my circle and both of my BFFs (also turning 30) had surprise parties for their big days. (I made special videos for them. Check out the videos I made for Ashley and Lauren .) There was a part of me that really wished I was going to be home for my 30th and showered with attention, surprises, tiaras, theme parties, and feather boas by my pals. But, of course, I was still psyched to be lucky enough to be in VIETNAM for the...

A Happy Birthday Wish!

Image
We haven't had internet for awhile, so we're going to try to catch up on some posts quickly. A few days ago, my BFF, Ashley, turned 30 on January 4. Her awesome husband, threw her a surprise party and I was so sad not to be a part of the planning and celebration. I became desperate to find a way to participate from long distance. So I made her a video toast with pictures of us growing up together. I'm so lucky that she's been my BFF for nearly 20 years! Click the image to watch the video! I spoke to her while she was at her party (after the big surprise), and she sounded SO happy. Her sister, Michelle, flew in from Arizona to surprise her, tons of her friends and family came to the party, and she sounded as giddy as a little girl. It made me think about how much fun we had together when we actually were  little girls and I missed her even more! So, a late, but sincere Happy 30th Birthday to my BFF, Ashley!

What I'll Miss on The Trip, or...Haikus to My Hair Dryer

Image
We're leaving SF in less than four months. As Tom would say, "CRAY CRAY!" (I'm not kidding, he really does say that.) As the days tick away and we get closer to The Trip, I find myself appreciating little luxuries in my life and realizing I'm going to be without those goods. (And, before you get your feelings hurt - if you're reading this, it probably means that I'll miss you also...but this list is just for stuff, not peeps.) Here's the list: Clarence , my stuffed turtle that I have slept with nearly every night for 10 years. He's the perfect size and shape for a nighttime cuddle buddy and I'm not ashamed to admit it. Sometimes, I have to wrestle him away from Tom. He's part of our family. I'll miss him very, very much. I considered cutting off his head and bringing him with me...but Tom pointed out that everyone in the hostels would think I am crazy.

Life-Changing Moments - And Why I Travel

Image
When I think about the path my life has taken, a few moments stick out as truly life-changing. The obvious ones: graduating from high school and from college, getting married, etc... And there were the days I realized that I was never going to be taller than 5'2" and when I decided to stop getting blonde highlights. Another important day was when I met my best friend, Ashley, a girl from the city who came to my small, country town and toughened me up (and made me infinitely cooler). The day I learned to ride a bike (with purple and silver handlebar pom poms) in the circle drive of my trailer park was an important day of freedom. Similarly, getting my first car (and the only car I've ever owned) seems like a rite of passage that needs to be on the list. On a sad note, losing my dad when I was 19 was certainly life-changing, and I wouldn't be who I am now (the good and the bad) without that happening. I obviously have to include meeting Tom in this list of milestones. T...

The World, Party of 2

Let's get straight to it - This adventure deserves documenting. So what's the adventure? Saying "YES!" Unless the question is "Are you voting for a Republican?" or, "Should I get bangs?" (in which case the answer to both is a resounding 'no'), we're saying 'yes' more. Yes to pie...always. We're taking more chances - embarking on new adventures - opening ourselves up to unique experiences. And we're kicking off our new "yes" lifestyle with something huge. No really, it's HUGE.
