Did You Know I Went to Russia?

Image
I did. And it was so fun! (Side note: Tom visited Russia over 10 years ago on a backpacking trip with a buddy, so it's somewhere we've both visited, but not together.) I'm going to give a quick and dirty rundown of the events of September, 2011, when I visited Moscow with 2 girlfriends and a guy friend (boyfriend? Why isn't there an equivalent word that doesn't imply dating? Bro?). But, if you want an exhaustive play-by-play, which I highly recommend, check out Lauren's posts: Part Adeen , Part Dva , Part Tri  and Part Chetyre  (That's one, two, three, and four for you non-Russian speakers. You can also count these posts in the voice of The Count, who is not Russian but is European and mysterious.) You can also see all of my Russia pics here . So, how did I end up in Russia? As you'll read over at Lauren's blog, Food, Shoes, Booze , our friend, Rosley (that's her last name, but that's what we call her...so that's what you should ca...

A Secret Hike, Champagne, and River Shenanigans

First - new here? Get acquainted with our blog: Our first post (explains The Trip) The Route-ish (because we really don't have a plan) The Blog Name , explained Pics I've been putting off writing another post because my last experience with Blogger and it deleting my post had me so pissed that I just couldn't deal. So I gave myself a time-out...but I'm back now!!! I have a very good reason for being "back on the blog" and that's because we had an amazing Memorial Weekend with our friends Emily and Anna and it needs sharing. Tom and I love to camp and love to camp with friends (but never more than 6 people). Our favorite region is (no surprise) the Russian River area because it offers all our favorite activities. (river, ocean, Guerneville, hiking, redwoods) More than that, the entire area feels like a throwback to the 1950s. It's become a big part of our summers. Sadly, due to California State budget cuts, most of the beautiful state park...

Stupid Blogger - Sonoma Weekend

Image
I wrote a long post about our perfect weekend in Sonoma in the Russian River Valley and somehow, it got deleted and I'm so mad that I'm not even going to re-write it now. Long (amazingly funny, witty) story short, we went to Cazadero, we stayed in this place , we saw lots of wildlife including our temporary pet goat, Reba, and here are all the pictures . And here's one photo of our cabin so that this post doesn't bore you to death. Stupid Blogger/Blogspot.

Pig Intestine Soup Anyone? (Adventures in Burma)

Image
I usually get most excited to travel to places I've never been. I look forward to see the sites for the first time, try new foods, have unique experiences. This time around though, one of the places I am most excited to go to on this trip is a country I have already been - Burma, or Myanmar. I visited Burma for two weeks in June, 2003, and it left such an impression on me that I have been wanting to go back since. I want to see how it's changed, but mostly, I want to go with Steph and experience it with her for the first time. I'll give a little background to Burma because it is like no other place I have been. Bagan, Burma

The Honeymooners - Indonesia, August 2010

Prepare yourself - this post is long and picture-heavy. But the pictures are really pretty, so stay strong and keep reading. Also - new here? Get acquainted with our blog: Our first post (explains The Trip) The Route-ish (because we really don't have a plan) The Blog Name Pics The Trip is going to be awesome. I don't want to have expectations that are too high...but I'm pretty sure it's going to be amaze-balls. So, when I'm complaining about cockroaches or lamenting my lack of a blow dryer or peep-toe pumps, remind me that The Trip is, in fact, amaze-balls. This gal is probably on a long trip with her husband. We're in the thick of planning - we have an approximate route charted for India and are starting to make our pitstop wish list for that country. We've created a schedule/calendar for our cross-country road trip. (See that here .) We're making small purchases for the trip (more on that soon), and I'm slowly weaning myself off ...

Why Do I Travel?

Image
Most people that I meet say they like to travel. Why is that? Do we use it as a way to escape our lives? A way to reboot? Whether we load up the car for a lake weekend, relax on a beach in Mexico or trek the Inca Trail, travel is a unique part of the human experience. Every trip provides something. I was fortunate to be exposed to travel from an early age. Both of my parents have a love for travel that was passed down to me and my sisters. My mother grew up and spent her early adulthood in England, traveled up the east coast of Africa in the 60s, worked for a year in Montreal, and hopped around the Mediterranean with her friends. My father's passion for travel came through his work. He was a salesman who got to experience many new places while on work trips. My parents passed this passion down to me and my sisters through exposing us to many different places in the United States and  in Europe (more about my family trips later). They both still travel as often as they can and I ...
